On July 1, 2022, the City of Oroville transferred its fire service to CAL FIRE (Butte Unit); seventeen city firefighters became state employees and the four Oroville stations are now staffed by CAL FIRE. The independent Oroville Fire Department no longer exists -- to work at an Oroville station you are hired by the State of California through CAL FIRE, and you apply via CalCareers.
